Our History

Although the Celtic Collection, which was started under Comhairle na gCumann Ceilteach (commonly known as CCC) in 1990, this organization disbanded in 1992. Several members of CCC got together and formed CCC Celt in 1993. In 1995 we received our non-profit status, or 501C3, from the Federal Government.

As our name indicates, we also support all aspects of Celtic culture, for the most part within the county. For example, we have donated perpetual trophies to both an Irish Feis and a Scottish dance championship, subscribed to the Celtic Cross monument in Bristol, helped the Children’s Friendship Project for Northern Ireland (CFPN)I bring over children from Northern Ireland, contributed to events run by Bristol’s Celtic Heritage Foundation, the Bucks County St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee and the Bucks County Irish Center; helped a young girl take advantage of the Irish Way Program; helped a BCCC student attend an International Writing class in Galway, and in May of 2008 we awarded our fifth scholarship. We have gone outside the county to help the daughter of an LAOH officer make an educational trip to New Zealand; to contribute to the Erie Historical Society’s 2004 Irish Heritage Project; to cosponsor a major Breton music ensemble making its initial appearance in the Philadelphia area;  to contribute to the digitizing of the Commodore John Barry papers; and to make grants to the Trenton AOH Division 10’s Gaelscoil.

Our Celtic Collection of over 3,000 volumes and 145 Videos, primarily housed in the Bucks County Community (BCCC) College library represents the histories, poetry, culture, archaeology, folklore, etc. of the Celtic countries – Brittany, Cornwall, Ireland, Isle of Man, Scotland and Wales. Special purchases such asyouth books, Celtic holiday books and dictionaries are distributed into the other 18 libraries within the county.  Donated books, which already exist on the college shelves, find their way into one of the other county libraries.  Donated books, which we can not place within the county, we have placed outside such as the donation of over 100 books to the Montgomery County AOH/LAOH library, and twenty books to the start-up New Castle County Irish Society library. If we can not place a book, we will, with the donor’s approval, sell it and use the proceeds to make purchases for our Collection in the donor’s name. Our new Music collection now exceeds 400 CDs & 120 DVDs of Celtic music/film. You can check the Collection at www.bucks.edu

In addition to donations mentioned above, CCC Celt also made a contribution to the Irish Memorial at Penns Landing, and spent 16 days displaying Great Hunger books during the Jeannie Johnston visit to Philadelphia, Burlington, and Bristol.

As of July of 2005, certain materials added to the Celtic Collection are being placed in some of the other eighteen (18) libraries in Bucks County.

Not being membership-driven, we are a small in numbers association. If you are interested in becoming a member, please contact us through our “Contact Us” icon. We are about keeping the Celtic Culture alive. Your help is not only welcome, but necessary.
